Opportunity

Entrepreneurial systems thinker to join us as a Technical Project Manager. This position can be based out of our Cincinnati, OH and Chicago, IL offices or remotely anywhere in the US. 

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and train contractors, curators, and augmented staff to scale curation and data ingestion efforts.
  • Coordinate data curation, quality assurance, and review to meet OKRs
  • Assess, evaluate, and plan new data sources with the head of our Place Lab business unit and coordinate acquisition efforts
  • Define, create, share, and help automate metrics to track the health of our data and our progress towards goals
  • Empathize with end users and internal stakeholders to identify ways to improve their user experiences through better, more useful data
  • Effective decision-making with a bias towards speed and 80/20 solutions
  • Contribute to the execution of your geo data initiatives—get your hands dirty
  • Assist engineering with feature QA and sprint planning

Experience

  • Experience with Elasticsearch, SQL, and scripting languages (like Ruby, Python) preferred
  • Knowledge of regular expressions is a plus
  • Technical knowledge of database technologies (ideally Postgres) is a plus
  • Experience with ETL or data warehousing preferred
  • Experience working in an agile system preferred
  • Experience with location based / geographic data is a plus
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud hosting infrastructure prefered

Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a software developer or data engineer required
  • An understanding of software engineering principles and MVC architecture
  • Project management or team lead experience a required
  • Track record of working with and leading low-ego, highly collaborative, cross-functional teams
  • Entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast-paced environment
  • Outcome-oriented. Not reactionary, articulates the desired outcome and works collaboratively to create a path to achieve it
  • Ability to quickly absorb technical concepts and communicate them to a non-technical audience
  • Experience using (not necessarily building) data science or machine learning models to solve product problems
  • Technical ability with tools like ElasticSearch and Postgres to query and manipulate our dataset to making product decisions
  • A strong systems thinker and problem solver

  • A love of travel—especially road trips
